ARES / RACES

ARES stands for Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

These are amateur radio (HAM radio) operators in Outagamie County that work with local Emergency Government, Red Cross, National Weather Service, and other private and public disaster relief organizations. These people have been trained by the National Weather Service, Red Cross, and Emergency Government.

These operators volunteer their time, equipment, and communication skills when called on to help. At this time our group consist of about 50 members. They provide assistance to our community in times of disaster.

Weekly / Emergency nets

The Assistant EC's consist of:

AEC for Operations Bob Bain N9LDA,

AEC for Skywarn John Morack N9ZXR

AEC’s for Served Agencies (Red Cross Salvation, Army and others Disasters requesting Communications support). Dan Vanevenhoven N9LVS and Gary Stemple KC9DJQ.
 

ARES operators volunteer their time, equipment, and communication skills when called on to help. At this time our group consist of about 40 members. They provide assistance to our community in times of disaster.

Requirements for membership are:

An Active Amateur Radio license of any class.
Attend a weekly net at least once per quarter.
Perform as Net Control for at least once per year.
Attend at least one meeting per quarter.
Contact the Emergency Coordinator via formal ARRL Radiogram at once per year with a statement wishing to remain on the Wisconsin ARES Roster.
Complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Course 700 and the FEMA
Incident Command System Class ICS 100 within 60 days of registering with ARES
Attend National Weather Service Storm Spotter training at least every 2 years.
Pass local police background check (this requirement pending)
There are no financial dues. Your membership dues are to support the Served Agencies
when requested. Your pay is the thanks of those you helped. There is no requirement to join any other Amateur Radio organization, although membership in the American Radio Relay League is encouraged.

Our weekly nets are held on Sunday evening at 8:00 PM local time, on the 146.655 MHz EC Resources, LTD. repeater. The net is for training and information exchange relating to ARES\RACES matters.

Our ARES Skywarn nets are held on the 146.655 MHz repeater, with the backup system of 145.150 MHz Red Cross repeater. We activate our severe weather nets when asked to do so by the National Weather Service office in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
